past continuous tense


Ok, now students we are going to the form of Past  continuous tense. What do you know about past continuous tense?

Past  continuous tense is a sentence or statement that propose something was happening in the past but still continue at that time and normally added by another event that occur after it.


Pattern:

Subject + To Be past + Verb-ing +  When/While + S + V2 + C


Characteristics:

-Use verb1-ing
- use to be past (was, were)
- plural subject (were )
- singular subject ( was )
- subject I ( was )

Time signals:
-         yesterday                                  - last night
-         last year                                    - ago , etc.
Examples:

1. (+)  I was writing a letter when Farida knocked the door last night.

2. They were playing hide and seek when their uncle arrived home.

3. Phill and Bill were buying a book-selves when Komijah came .

4. Mary Magdalena was singing a song  on the stage for win the Indonesian got talent contest two days ago.

5. (?) Was  you writing a letter when Farida knocked the door ?

6.  Were they playing hide and seek when their uncle arrived ?

7.  Was  Mary Magdalena singing a song on the stage for win the IGT contest two days ago ?

8. (-) I was  not writing a letter when Farida knocked the door.

9. etc.
